In 2017, Waimate Parenting Hub and Waimate District Library decided to run the Early Reading Together® programme for fathers, advertising it as Books, Blokes and a Beer here. Quoting:
Dads play a critical role in their children's literacy development by modeling reading, sharing stories, exploring the world together, and engaging in meaningful conversations that build critical thinking skills.
Quoting from 16 Nov 2017 Waimate District Council post here:
The first evening of Books, Blokes and a Beer was a great night. Lots of fun and learning happened at the Woolshed Bar, with 10 dads taking part.
A comment from Shelly Earnshaw:
My partner really enjoyed it he even thanked me for making him go :-)
A comment (received via email in Dec 2017) from Lilee Checketts, Coordinator of the Waimate Parenting Hub:
The Books, Blokes and a Beer event for dads went really well. ... Adam [Early Reading Together® Workshop Leader] enjoyed the rare opportunity it created for men to talk about their kids together.
A comment (received via email in Dec 2017) from Adam Rivett, Early Reading Together® Workshop Leader:
The books, blokes and beers was probably the best Early Reading Together® I have run and I've run a few now. Could be a good blueprint for other centres.
